Venice's Entry Fee, Explained: What It Costs and How to Avoid Paying More

Venice charges day visitors an access fee on its busiest dates. As of this period it is reportedly €5 if you book in advance and €10 if you leave it late, verified by QR code at entry points. Who actually has to pay

The fee targets day-trippers — people who arrive in the historic centre and leave the same day without staying overnight. If you are sleeping in Venice, you do not pay the access fee, because the city tourist tax is already collected through your accommodation.

Generally exempt (you may still need to register for a free QR code): overnight guests in Venice, residents of the Veneto region, children under a set age, people travelling for work, study or medical reasons, and visitors to family in the city. How the QR check works

You book online for your specific date, get a QR code, and keep it on your phone or printed. How to avoid paying more than you need to
