Uzbekistan Announces 30-Day Visa-Free Entry for Indian Travelers

Tashkent announced a 30-day visa-free regime for Indian passport holders on August 30, 2026. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and why the e-Visa is still the safe route today.

On August 30, 2026, during Prime Minister Modi state visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan announced a 30-day visa-free regime for Indian passport holders. It is a genuinely big deal for a route that has been quietly growing for years, and the reaction online was instant. But there is an important detail most posts skipped: an announcement is not the same thing as an implemented policy.

What was actually announced

The headline is simple — Indian citizens would be able to enter Uzbekistan for up to 30 days without applying for a visa in advance. What has not been published, as of our last check, is the formal implementation: the start date, the exact entry conditions, and the official notification from Uzbek authorities that border officers actually work from.

So the honest status is announced, pending formal implementation. You can see the live status for this pair any time on our Uzbekistan entry in the Visa Checker — we flag it as pending rather than confirmed, and we re-check it every two to three weeks instead of on the normal monthly cycle.

The fallback that already works: the e-Visa

Uzbekistan has had a functioning e-Visa system for Indian passport holders for years. It is online, it is quick, and it is the route we would still use for any trip in the near term. If you are booking flights for the next few weeks, apply for the e-Visa and treat any visa-free entry as a bonus you did not need.

The worst version of this story is someone flying to Tashkent on the strength of a news headline and being turned around at immigration bcoz the rule was never gazetted. Do not be that traveller.

What to do before you book

  • Confirm the current rule with the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Indian Embassy in Tashkent before you pay for anything non-refundable.
  • Apply for the e-Visa anyway if you are travelling soon — it is the reliable route today.
  • Keep your return or onward ticket and accommodation proof handy. Visa-free entry almost always still requires them at the counter.
  • Watch the fares. Delhi and Mumbai to Tashkent has been one of the cheapest Central Asia routes out of India, and it moves fast when a policy story breaks.

Why Uzbekistan is worth the trip

Samarkand and Bukhara are the obvious draws — tiled madrasas, Silk Road history and a food scene that is much more interesting than its reputation. It is also still cheap by Indian outbound standards: mid-range hotels, cheap intercity trains and short flight times compared with Europe.

Skytrippa is where we compare the Tashkent fares before committing, bcoz the spread between carriers on this route is unusually wide.
