India Extends the Free e-Visa for Thai Travelers Through 2027

It is a fee waiver, not visa-free entry. Thai nationals still apply online for a 30-day double-entry e-Tourist visa — they just do not pay for it, through December 31, 2027.
India has extended the free e-Tourist visa for Thai nationals through December 31, 2027. Good news, and widely misreported. Almost every version of the headline we saw called it visa-free entry. It is not. It is a visa fee waiver, and the difference matters at the airport.
What it actually means
Thai passport holders still have to apply for a 30-day double-entry e-Tourist visa through the official Indian e-Visa portal, before travelling. The application, the documents, the photo, the processing window — all unchanged. What is removed is the fee. You apply, you pay nothing, you get the approved e-Visa by email and carry it with you.
Visa-free would mean showing up at immigration with just a passport. That is not this. Anyone landing in Delhi or Mumbai without an approved e-Visa in hand is getting sent back, waiver or not.

The details worth knowing
- Validity: 30 days, double entry — so one exit and re-entry inside the window is allowed.
- Cost: zero government fee under the waiver, through December 31, 2027.
- Where to apply: the official Indian e-Visa portal only. Third-party agents charge for something that is currently free.
- Apply early. Free does not mean instant — leave a few working days.
You can check the current rule for India on our Visa Checker, which lists the requirement type, processing time and the official source link for the pair.
Why India is pushing this
Two-way tourism between India and Thailand has been lopsided for years — huge Indian outbound numbers to Bangkok and Phuket, much smaller Thai inbound numbers to India. Thailand waived its own fees for Indian travellers first. This is the return leg of that exchange, and it is aimed squarely at getting more Thai leisure and business visitors onto Indian routes.

Planning the trip
Bangkok to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru are all served with short, frequent flights, and fares swing hard by day of week. We compare them on Skytrippa first, then build the itinerary around the cheap day rather than the other way round.

Anything unclear about the waiver? Message us on Instagram or email contactskytrippa@gmail.com. We would rather answer a question than watch someone book on a wrong headline, and Skytrippa keeps the entry updated as the portal changes.
